The current stage of digitalization, which the whole world is going through, requires strategic thinking, both on the highest technologies and on the goals and methods of digitalization. Huawei presented its vision of this global agenda at the annual Huawei Digital Community Conference.

Today’s characteristic universal connectivity is a fundamental thing, which, in fact, changes everything in the familiar IT. “Network evolution from 1G to 4G has brought people together, and the 5G network, in turn, opens a new era in which absolutely all things will be interconnected,” said Guo Ping, Acting Chairman of Huawei’s Board in his speech at the conference. Connection to corporate data and information resources, both internally and externally, is the foundation for the digitalization of enterprises and institutions, and connecting people to information sources and each other is the foundation for digital transformation. Such a comprehensive view of the changes taking place in business and in the management of large organizational systems, for example, in state authorities, helps to assess the scale of changes occurring under the influence of informatization and use them for effective digital transformation.

Artificial intelligence creates new values for business

In the digital world of continuous transformation, literally everything is subject to change. Even the communications themselves are changing. For example, the Internet of Things, which spans critical manufacturing and business processes with sensors, is changing the traditional understanding of SLA parameters. Production data traffic is becoming even more sensitive to data environment parameters than voice and live video.

We need to be able to provide a customizable network experience with SLA guarantees,” emphasizes Guo Ping. “For this purpose, Huawei is working on so-called intelligent connectivity.

It’s about some kind of hyper-automated network that provides ubiquitous access at gigabit speeds and a deterministic experience of specific technology scenarios.

Radical growth of the number of objects involved in digital chains of data processing, transmitted at gigabit speeds, determines the new needs of computing systems. The most important of them is the application of artificial intelligence (AI) methods for solving various tasks. In general, according to Go Ping, the focus of the computing industry is gradually shifting towards AI, which is becoming a central element in generating new value for business or management. This situation creates a serious methodological challenge, says Huawei’s top manager: to implement large data analytics algorithms, artificial intelligence methods, supercomputer computing requires different computing solutions, one architecture is no longer enough.

We need to diversify our technology,” said Go Ping, explaining Huawei’s strategy in this regard: We draw a clear line between hardware and software and adapt our computing solutions based on the x86 Universal Architecture and our own Kunpeng processor for different data processing requirements.

The synthesis of communications and computing is changing the traditional economy.

Go Ping formulated a concise formula for the digital economy: “The strength of the digital economy is the intensity of communication multiplied by the accuracy of the computation. Indeed, it is the synthesis of communications and computation that is changing the various spheres of the traditional economy today, as well as creating new segments of the economy with its specific values for the state and society. The head of Huawei cited a similarity: modern communications and computing are very similar to electricity a hundred years ago. In the beginning, it provided lighting, and then it began to supply the most sophisticated household appliances and industrial plants. Thanks to electrification, new sectors of the economy have emerged, dozens or even hundreds of times larger than the electricity industry itself. Under such a scenario, the phenomenon of digitalization develops.

Today it is driven by two powerful forces: clouds that simplify access to advanced computing and communication technologies, and artificial intelligence that can generate new data and knowledge based on existing information.

Clouds become the basis of the intellectual world

According to Guo Ping, the cloud is the digital basis of the intellectual world. Therefore, Huawei has concentrated considerable efforts on developing this area. Three years ago, the company set a goal to become one of the top five cloud service providers in the world, and has achieved this. Today, Huawei cloud services cover 23 regions of the world, and more than 1.5 million developers are connected to them.

The strategy of Huawei Cloud Division in terms of geographic coverage and presence in international markets also includes partnership business models. Thus, Huawei’s partner in providing public cloud services in the Russian market has become SberCloud – the first supplier of public domestic cloud services. According to Fedor Prokhorov, CTO SberCloud, speaking at the conference “Digital Community 2020”, this public cloud was created to help Russian companies and government organizations to carry out digital transformation.

Cloud IaaS/PaaS platforms, such as SberCloud.Advanced and AI Cloud, create an opportunity for cloud application providers and end-user solutions: more than 40 digital services, which, according to Fedor Prokhorov, not only completely replace local customer data centers, but also offer a large number of additional services, such as backup and disaster recovery, platform services for rapid application launch, data analytics, etc.., including access to the computing power of Russia’s most powerful supercomputer, Kristofari.

Go Ping gave an example of business transformation based on Huawei Cloud services of Chinese Tech Education Company. She used to be involved in IT training, but thanks to her cooperation with Huawei Cloud, she has become a provider of ICT solutions for education, and her business grew 800% (!) in 2020 compared to last year.
